Anthony Peterson moved his record to 23-0 (17) by stopping rugged southpaw Luis Ernesto Jose, now 25-4-2 (21), in the ninth round of the main event of an ESPN2-televised card from the DC Armory in Washington, DC Friday night.

The Dominican Republic’s Jose showed plenty of pop in the first, rocking Peterson with left-hand head shots at the start of the fight, which the undefeated fighter managed to adjust to by blocking many shots and coming back to score shots of his own.

Peterson established his educated jab in the second as Jose began to swing away, getting a bit sloppier with some of his blows.

Peterson's sharper shots began to break down his foe in the third, staggering him with body-head combinations which kept stopping him on his tracks.

Peterson added quick uppercuts and multiple body shots in the fourth, with only a lost mouthpiece by the orthodox fighter to break up the tempo in the round.

The action picked up in intensity, with Peterson loading up with straight rights and particularly left hooks, while the tiring Jose would try to stay in-close, putting short, looping shots together to end the round.

Jose did well in the next round, landing his fair share of body shots, followed by looping head shots, while Peterson stayed on top of things working his speed and avoiding the occasional Jose haymaker.

After spending the majority of the following round trading on the inside, Peterson hurt his challenger to the head with a right and left as the bell rang.

The pressure finally made Jose cave in, as he went down due to multiple shots, but really going down more because of the pressure itself. The effective end came as Peterson went back to work, landing a couple of head shots and a body shot while Jose was already going down, with his corner signaling the end and the referee halting the bout at 1:36 of the ninth round.

LAMONT STOPS BROWN IN EIGHT

Four-time world title challenger, John "The Eastern Beast" Brown (23-14-2, 11 KOs) (a very tough and experienced fireplug who came in as a late replacement) was gradually worn down by the elder of the two Peterson brother, Lamont (21-0, 9 KOs), who showed sharp uppercuts, put in a good amount of body work, and used his superior speed to out-hustle Brown from the onset of the bout.

The game Brown could only walk into the shots, landing a few body shots and missed overhand rights in the first four rounds.

Brown did much better at the mid-point of the fight, scoring well to his much taller opponent’s head.

Despite a decent round in the seventh for Brown, Peterson opened up fast and furious in the eight, with referee Kenny Chavelier jumping in (and getting accidentally floored while trying to separate the fighters) and stopping the fight at 0:28 of the round.
